Breiðdalur (or Broad Valley) is surrounded by one of Iceland´s most beautiful mountain ranges with lofty, jagged peaks and sheer cliffs. The varied geology of the area provides an opportunity to find and collect colourful rocks and stones from several places.
In Breiðdalur you will find three of Iceland´s most beautiful fishing rivers, Breiðdalsá, Tinnudalsá and Norðurdalsá. On Breiðdalsá you must visit Beljandi waterfall, the most beautiful falls in the area.
The area is known for its pleasant weather and there are a number of walking paths both short and long. Here you can be close to nature and the wild life that abounds.
There are many bird watching places to visit and some are literally on the doorstep! If you are lucky you may even spot a Reindeer or two and if you are really lucky you may see the ellusive Arctic Fox our largest indigenous land animal.
From the middle of August into September is the berry season when the moorlands turn black and blue with the ripening berries as well as the reds and browns of autumn.
